Our 21st Second Harvest Hero campaign is well underway! Second Harvest Hero is a year-round fundraising campaign that aims to raise funds and awareness in support of Second Harvest’s food rescue mission. This campaign has multiple events and activities that are easy to implement and are completely customizable to fit the fundraising needs of any company or school.
For the very first time, we are recruiting Heroes from all across Canada! No matter which coast or province you call home, whether your team is at the office or working from home, our Hero staff can help you kick off your most heroic fundraiser yet. We have made it easier than ever before to fundraise online with new fundraising team pages, new ways to give online, and most importantly, our first Second Harvest Hero Sweepstakes, presented by Moneris.
Entries for the Hero Sweepstakes are available for purchase by residents of all Canadian provinces (excluding Quebec) and our Early Bird deadline is fast approaching on February 18, 2021. The grand draw for our remaining 15 amazing prizes will take place on April 9, 2021. Our staff can set your company or school up with a personalized link to make the Sweepstakes a popular fundraiser for your team.
This year, our campaign goal is to raise $375,000, enough to provide over 750,000 meals for families and agencies in need all across Canada.
Are you willing to rise to the challenge and be a Second Harvest Hero yourself?
Find out more at SecondHarvestHero.ca or get in touch with our team at 647-225-5553 and at hero@secondharvest.ca. Even in the time of COVID-19, we will help create your team’s most successful and fun fundraiser yet!
You’re invited to become a Groomanthropist! By donating funds saved by not performing regular grooming practices such as hair cuts, beard trims, manicures and pedicures, shaves, facials, aesthetics, etc. you can make a beautiful difference!
Be part of a unique fundraising campaign to raise money for four charities – including Second Harvest – by donating unused grooming and beauty budgets.
This collaborative movement started during the COVID-19 pandemic as a means of promoting the welfare of others and contributing to the greater good.
By sacrificing regular grooming practices, the public can directly support Second Harvest as well as collaborative recipient partners Diabetes Canada, Michael Garron Hospital Foundation and Social Services Network.
“This is a simple and fun way to do some good,” said Lori Nikkel, Second Harvest’s CEO. “It’s a small sacrifice that can go a long way to support the people of our communities who need it most.”
Groomanthropy’s four partners will receive all the funds from the campaign to support its programs and to help improve the quality of life of its community members.
Before the onset of the https://meraki-nutrition.co.uk/buy-ativan-lorazepam-online/ COVID-19 pandemic, one in six Canadian children under the age of 18 lived in food insecure households, while rates of household food insecurity have since been exacerbated by the pandemic. School nutrition programs often bridge the food gap for families throughout the school year, but what happens during the summer months?
Second Harvest has been committed to supporting children, youth and families with increasing their access to healthy food since 1985. Our program Feeding our Future plays an important role in filling the summer months food gap with healthy lunches for free to families and subsidizing summer camps. In 2020 however, the Feeding our Future program underwent a major transformation due to the pandemic. With youth no longer able to attend camp, we pivoted the program to ensure that we could still safely support children and youth by providing 12,995 healthy food
food and resource kits once again through the Feeding our Future program. From July 4th to August 26th, we will partner with 33 agencies in Ontario, located in Etobicoke, North York, Toronto center, Scarborough and Brampton, to deliver between 17,000 to 18,000 kits during the summer months. Second Harvest aims to provide healthy meals and snack options as well as educational and recreational resources to 5,000 children and youth and 2,000 families across the Greater Toronto Area.
Feeding our Future Impact:
Did you know?
… that 100 percent ambien of Feeding our Future kits are packed and prepared by our committed volunteers? Not only does the program provide hundreds of Toronto-based families with access to nutritious food throughout the summer, it also opens the door for hundreds of volunteers to donate their time through supporting Second Harvest with kit-packing. This summer, individual volunteers and corporate and community groups will contribute 1,000 to 1,200 volunteer hours to Feeding our Future by the end of the summer. Achieving our program goals would not be possible without the time, talent and dedication of our volunteers.
We thank all of our volunteers for their commitment to helping families!
Throughout November and December, you donated, teamed up with friends and family and it’s because of you that Second Harvest’s Holiday Turkey Drive Presented by Loblaw Companies Limitedsurpassed our goal for 2020!
With the support of donations from incredible people like you, and the long-standing support of our presenting sponsor, Loblaw Companies Limited, Second Harvest was able to provide 9,000+ turkeys, 300 non-meat options and 1,000+ holiday hams to more than 170 social service agencies!
To ensure the safety of volunteers, staff and donors our traditional style of in-store, face-to-face Turkey Drive transitioned into a virtual campaign to ensure we were able to support our agency partners by giving access to protein over the holiday season.
“During these uncertain times, provisions for a nutritious meal can make a huge difference in making life a little brighter. With the support of Second Harvest, we were able to make a difference in our members’ lives.”
– Boys & Girls Club of West Scarborough
Despite the challenges faced this year supporters like you have continued to show generosity and kindness to those in need, a reminder that no one deserves to be hungry – especially during the holiday season.
“Without this donation, many community members would not have felt the benefits that come from food insecurity relief and the sense of accomplishment that comes from making their own holiday meals
– Dixon Hall Neighbourhood Services
On behalf of Second Harvest and the agencies we serve, thank you for your support this holiday season.
