Fine Food Meets Music & Philanthropy at The Rescue Party

On June 4th, the best of Toronto’s food scene joined some of Canada’s most beloved entertainers at The Rescue Party in support of Second Harvest. It was a spectacular night of fine food, music, and philanthropy that raised enough money to rescue and redistribute enough food for more than 1.3 million meals to Canadians in need.

Building on the 30-year legacy of Toronto Taste, attendees at The Rescue Party enjoyed signature bites from Toronto’s top chefs and restaurants, served with premium wines, cocktails, beers and non-alcoholic beverages. Second Harvest was delighted at the continued support of Chef Matt Basile, Chef Nuit Regular of Kiin, Chef David Adjey of Bouffe, and San Pellegrino, among many others. We were also thrilled to welcome new partners such as Adrak Yorkville, Pink Sky and AP Restaurant. Many exquisite items were on the menu, from hearty braised beef and handmade pasta to the freshest oysters. chickpea tetela, arancini and plenty of other mouth-watering options.

“The Rescue Party just brings so many people together for one single cause on one single night,” said Basile. “I think it’s great to do a lot of things throughout the year, but to have one ‘Super Bowl’ to bring it all home—to me—is what it’s all about.”

The event took place at Meridian Hall, right in the heart of downtown Toronto. It was a perfect venue for the special concert featuring performances from Juno award winners Serena Ryder and Sam Roberts. With her hits What I Wouldn’t Do and Stompa, Ryder’s electric performance got everyone moving and singing along. Roberts brought his signature powerful guitar rhythm and soulful lyrics, ending the show with his latest single, Picture of Love.

Canada’s Got Talent judge, Kardinal Offishall acted as host and MC for the show, bringing his signature brand of energy and humour to the stage.

Besides food and music, guests enjoyed several interactive drink stations, lounges and photo backdrops. They also took part in a silent auction, bidding on unique items and private dining experiences prepared by celebrated chefs. Others entered The Rescue Party Raffle for a chance to win tickets to exciting sports events and a spa vacation in Quebec. All donations during the event were matched by iA Financial Group up to $50,000, amplifying the impact of the evening.

On behalf of the communities and non-profits that we serve and the planet we preserve, thank you to all guests, chefs and restaurants, artists, partners and volunteers for joining us at The Rescue Party. Your support made the event a great success and will allow us to continue keeping good surplus food on plates and out of landfills. We look forward to seeing you next year!
